Trauma doesn't define your child. But how we respond to it can.

Healing the Heart is an essential guide for parents, educators, and caregivers supporting children impacted by trauma. Grounded in the science of resilience and positive psychology, this book offers actionable tools for helping kids feel safe, seen, and supported as they heal and grow.

The prevalence of trauma permeates America’s families, and no one is immune to its impact. Natural disasters, community and institutional violence, adverse childhood experiences—these events impact the developing brains and bodies of our youth. This book for parents and educators pulls together the research on adverse childhood experiences and other traumatic events, positive psychology and resilience to provide parents and educators specific tools to help their trauma-impacted children move from surviving to thriving. Presented in an easy-to-read, conversational style, Healing the Heart uses evidence-based strategies, inspirational stories and role-playing scenarios to provide parents and educators the information and tools needed to heal the negative impact of traumatic events. With specific strategies to address diverse forms of trauma and diverse populations, this book is a must-read resource for anyone wanting to reestablish safety, increase resilience and help heal the long-term impact of trauma.

Good book for anyone dealing with trauma

Good book to read however there are workbook pages you have to do if you want too. I would have liked to have less workbook pages and more read.

Healing the Heart

Christine Fonseca has done it again. With all the changes happening in the world today, this book is a must read. We all internalize trauma on our own level and this book offers great explanations to help parents and kids understand their experiences and how to work through challenges and situations that have registered as trauma in the mind and/or body. Highly recommend!

Not Just For Parents Anymore

We are living in traumatic times and Ms. Fonseca puts great wisdom out through this book to help us all navigate a little better. I read this book from an educator's perspective and have used the ideas to put together a training for educators. The book is easy to read and is written through the eyes of a masterful storyteller. There are many practical ideas for parents, educators, and even ourselves that can be applied to our life's experiences. It is a 'must read' for educators wanting a practical overview of trauma and how we have the ability to help children navigate these traumatic times - not just in Covid, but with all the trauma that our children live with every day.

Children who have experienced trauma need intervention.

Having been a survivor of childhood trauma myself and not getting any help at that time, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to parents whose children have had traumatic experiences. I believe that the methods described in this book would be very helpful, not only for the child involved, but also for the parents and other adults in the child's life. The book explains the effects of the trauma every aspect of a child's life. Too often children are told, just don't think about it, or get over it. That doesn't happen without some good intervention and counseling. I feel it is a good guideline for not only parents, but those who work with children. It helps identify signs that something might be wrong. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
